The Lead Coach and Team Manager (TM) Coordinator is a volunteer role focused on supporting coaches and TMs to ensure teams run smoothly and successfully throughout the season. They act as the first point of contact for coaches and TMs seeking support. They collect and share useful resources, especially to assist those new to the role. Lead Coaches and TM Coordinators also work closely with the committee to help create a positive, well-supported environment for all coaching staff and TMs.
Our coaches are volunteers who run weekly training sessions and lead the team on game days. They must have a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and register their role within PlayHQ. Our coaches, who have varying levels of basketball knowledge, are supported to upskill continuously. They demonstrate our core values in every situation, fostering respect, patience, and a positive attitude. Coaches also ensure kids are having fun, share positive feedback with players, and use game outcomes to inform future training sessions. At the end of each season, coaches provide the committee with feedback to assist with future team selections.
Team Managers are volunteers who support coaches to ensure smooth game day operations. Like coaches, they must have a valid WWCC and register their role on PlayHQ. They assist with scheduling training and games via Heja. On game day, TMs check that uniform numbers match the team sheet, distribute clash uniforms when needed, and collect them after the game. They also assist with drinks, substitutions, and supporting players on the bench. TMs set up scoring rosters, understand the rules, and approach any issues with respect towards referees and officials. At season’s end, they work with coaches to provide feedback for future team selections.
Parent support plays a crucial role in the success of both the team and the club community. Parents stay in regular contact with coaches and team managers through the Heja app and join our Facebook group to stay up to date with club news and events. Ensuring your child arrives on time for training sessions and is in full Splash uniform for all games is greatly appreciated. Supporting the team also means helping out when needed, including taking turns with scoring duties. Most importantly, Splash parents approach every situation with respect, patience, and a positive attitude as we all proudly represent the Splash community.
Our team selection process is designed to be fair, transparent, and player-focused. Each season, an independent Team Selection Committee is appointed to assess players based on coach and team manager feedback, skill development, team balance, and parent input. Feedback is collected confidentially and respectfully, ensuring all voices are heard while maintaining privacy. Final teams are announced by a set date, with all decisions made in the best interests of player growth and team cohesion. The process is reviewed annually to ensure continued fairness and improvement.
The Gallie Award is named in honour of Adele Gallagher, the founding President of Splash, whose leadership and commitment laid the foundation for the club’s success. The award recognises players who embody the core values of our community, including effort, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. It celebrates those who maintain a positive attitude, encourage their teammates, and approach the game with determination and hard work, even after a tough match. The award honours players who put the team first, listen to their coach, show respect to referees and opposing teams, and represent the club with pride both on and off the court, modelling the values of Splash in all their actions.
Being nominated for the Gallie Award is a significant achievement, as it acknowledges the positive impact a player has on their team and our club. Nominations for the Gallie Award are announced, and the winners are presented at the end of the Summer season break-up annually.
